Valentina's Day

Hello,
Room 8 kids will be celebrating Valentine's day tomorrow. For that we will be making Friendship fruit salad. Please send in one extra piece of fruit (one apple, banana, etc.) with your child if you have any at home. Please don't make a trip to the store as this is a very last minute notice. Thanks for your ongoing help and support.

I will be posting our 100th day and Valentine's day celebrations photos on the weekend!

Reading Folders...

Hello again,

Last post I promise!

Please send back the reading program folder tomorrow so your child can take out a new book to share. They were due on Thursday. Plus, don't colour in the bookworm as we will put a sticker on to keep track of number of books your child has read. They will get to choose a prize when they have read 25 books!!!

Valentine's Day...

On Thursday, February 14 we will have a small Valentine's Day party.
If your child wants to bring cards, please make sure that they bring it for everyone so no one feels left out. We have 23 students in total including your child:). You will find class list (first names) in their daily folder tomorrow.

100 Day of school!!!

On February 12th, we will be celebrating our 100th day at school (I know it's unbelievable!). To celebrate the occasion we had sent a note home yesterday. Please find attached that note as most of our munchkins stayed home because of the snow day. You don't have to participate in the activity, but if you choose to, please send the items on Monday if possible.

I'll post all the fun activities that we will do in our class to celebrate one of the biggest milestones especially for our JKs!!!

I am back:)

Sorry it took me this long to post something...

I was almost a month away from my kinders... I missed them a lot and I know they missed me too (I still here one or the other saying, "Ms. Jawed when you were in India I missed you!" A very good feeling for a teacher:))

Anyways...

In math we have been working on measurement. We are having lots of fun measuring things around our classroom using standard (measuring tape) and non-standard (snap cubes, linking chains, kid steps, etc.) measuring tools. Please encourage your child to measure things around the house too.

In language we are working on rhyming words. We are using Dr. Seuss' books as our guide. We are also working on our "Heart Words" (high frequency words). We find these words around our classroom and while reading. Some kids are even using them in their stories. Ask them to find rhyming words and heart words in books, magazines and newspapers.

Kinder Writers!!

Our kindergarteners our busy writing notes and books everyday during our exploration time. During our writing workshop I introduced 3 ways of writing...

1. Draw a picture.
2. Curly writing (for those writers who are at very early stage of writing).
3. Book writing.

We also learned to use "bubble gum" writing when we don't know our words.

You can see writers all around the classroom. It is very exciting to see so many writers hidden in different parts of the classroom and getting lots of pictures and cards everyday!

Please do encourage your child write at home, even if in the beginning you see them scribbling (that is our curly writing:)).
