Little Naturalists!

Yesterday, our friends in Kindergarten became Naturalist and were looking for living and non-livings things that we can find in our environment. We used our tools i.e. magnifying glasses and Popsicle sticks careful to make sure that we don't disturb the bugs and their habitats. Some kids found interesting rocks and some discovered anthills. As the weather gets better, we will be going on the nature walks to investigate and learn more about the changes that Spring brings to our environment.

Learning about people of Canada...

On Friday, we had a presentation by an Inuit presenter. He talked about where his ancestors came from, where they live, and the animals that they depend upon. Students touched the artifacts that he brought, few students had the chance to use the drums and we all played an Inuit game! Here is a snapshot of the presentation...

Goodbye Sucheta!

On Friday, we said goodbye to our ECE student teacher Sucheta. She was a wonderful addition to our Kindergarten team! We will miss her!

What we were up to...

We have been very busy in Room 8 despite of the weather we had (Snow day in April... Hmm Seriously!!!).

We baked banana bread, made flubber, opened flower shop, measured the length of our classroom, wrote survey questions and tallied the results. Wondered, predicted and investigated if the object will sink or float! We also made collages using scrap papers with our reading buddies.
We have been learning about how to take care of our environment and our planet Earth as a whole. In coming weeks we will learn about reducing, reusing and recycling everyday garbage.

Here are some of the snapshots of our learning and exploring...

Planning, predicting, observing, and concluding...

Since couple of weeks, our little scientists in Room 8 have been exploring primary colours. Today I had food colouring out and asked interested curious minds what would they like to do with the materials at hand. They suggested we mix colours and make new colours. I told them that they were scientists and scientists follow a procedure when they are experimenting and researching. So my friends got to work! They planned how they are going to conduct the experiment. Then predicted what will happen, next they put their plan into action. They observe what happened and made their claims and conclusions based on their observation!

We also used paint to make secondary colours following the same scientific procedure.
